Elliott's Quilt

I made this for my son Elliott. The blocks are top stitched with glow in the dark thread which took 6 spools of thread. In the quilting guild that I belong to we have what we call friendship blocks. It works like this we choose the block and then the guild makes the blocks for you. You can provide the fabric or not.I provided the fabric and the group just made the stars because I wanted to sew them with the glow in the dark thread to make them the same. It's a fun way to do a quilt.
Tomorrow he starts a new job working at the YMCA as a preschool teacher helper. This is a job that I think he will do very well at and I am so very proud of him.

Elliott's senior photo.
Being a mom of a child with special needs is not easy but things like Elliott getting a new job that he is going to ROCK at made everything that I have done to help him get to this space in time a good thing.I'm proud of both of us we did it together just Elliott and I.

Wow! time flys when your busy. School has started for Spencer he is now in full time kindergarten. It has been a challenge. He seems to be having a great time recess seems to be his favorite part of school right now. He does love to read and do art this is a picture that he made for me. He is into traffic lights and signals, I love the colors pink and purple. It's times like this that make me smile from the inside out. I sure do Love this boy named Spencer.
Smiles from the inside out are a Good thing right now in this world of darkness and coldness. I believe in the light of good and I know that the good will over come. There will be light again.

Making Punkie feel better

Sunday I took a quilt to my big sister who has bone cancer. This is a quilt that I made for her a little while ago but haven't had time to get it to her. She loves tea party's so I called this "Sisters Having Tea On Sunday" It was made out some blocks that I won that were made out this really neat tea pot and teacup fabrics in her favorite colors.I'm hoping that it made her feel better and will keep her warm.
I'm sure that Spencer helped her feel better dancing with her bear to a silly song. She seemed a little happier when we left. My other sister brought her a new kitten anything at this point to make her feel better. The kitten sure was fun to watch.

A day of Quilting

What a great day I have finished a quilt that I started a few weeks ago. The top only took me a day to do but I didn't have enough batting and my leg was hurting. I used my coupon to JoAnns for the batting and Bam! it's done with pillow slips to match. This was a fun and very easy quilt to make loved it and the colors.

I have one more quilt top to quilt and finish this weekend. This means that I only have 4 unfinished quilts to go. WOW ya for me this is the least amount of unfinished tops that I have had in years. My plan is working and I love it.
Plan is 1. don't start any new big quilts until the tops that have already been done are finished. 2. Use as much as my own stash for these projects and any new projects that is started.3. Make and give away to someone in need one quilt a month. I love the thought of doing some sewing room clean up. The giving away makes my heart feel really warm and fuzzy. LOVE is a Great thing. :)

Well this is a cool Photo

This is a photo taken by Gary Parker at the Little People Of America National meeting that took place in Seattle last summer. These are my boys Floyden, Garrett, Elliott, Spencer and myself

Getting back on my feet again

Well I am getting to be my old self again. It has been a few weeks that I have not been on here making notes. I have had good reason though. Earlier this month I had some bad veins in left leg removed. I didn't think it was going to take this long to get better but it has. I also didn't think it would bruise the way it did either but it did. These are a few photos they are a bit gross.

This to me looks nasty. I'm so glad that I had it done because I can already feel the difference and see the difference in how my leg looks. Today on day 14 the bruising is almost gone the swelling has gone down and the pain is almost gone as well.I'm still real slow and I can't stand for very long or sit in one place for very long. This is not doing my mood very good though.Working as a massage therapist or being able to sit at the sewing machine to do my quilting projects are what keep me together and half way sane. So I'm so happy to be up moving about.

A Day With Spencer

Saturday was a day with Spencer and Tonks. We all got up early as we do everyday when you have a 5 almost 6 year old at home. We did our normal morning things like have coffee and something to eat. We had a wedding to go to that was going to be quite a drive no matter what. We had to be there at 2 I decided to take a ferry boat to save on gas and driving time.
The car is now packed and ready to go dog, water, car toys, extra cloths, warm coats, dog treats and her water, sun block for Mr Spencer white skin, SNACKS this one is very important for us snackers Spencer and I are great snackers. We are now on our way through town to get the ferry Spencer from the back seat says well if these Darn people would stop picking their noses and stop talking on their cell phones we could move faster I said yes you're right and laughed. We are now at the ferry ticket booth the nice lady says how are we doing today? I Said fine Spencer rolls his window down and says to the lady do these ferry boats have life jackets? I don't like the water very well and I can't swim very good cause I only had 3 swim lessons. The lady says "yes we have life jackets". Spencer then says "well I hope some are for kids my size cause last week at Uncle Paul's I wore a big persons life jacket and it didn't fit so good". I think the lady was thinking what is this kid going to come up with next. Spencer then said you know I'm going to be a train driver when I get big like my brother Garrett trains don't go on the water so I won't need a life jacket she laughed and Spencer said good bye to her. We went and parked in the line and then waited for the ferry too come.
At the wedding Spencer got tried of waiting because it was a half hour late so he was throwing rocks in to the like and making silly sounds the first part of the wedding. Other then that the wedding went really well.
On the way home we got lost and the cell phone wouldn't work Spencer had something to say around every corner about being lost and the bogyman coming for us and how he and Tonks were going to save Momma Shawn part of me laughed and the other part really wanted him to be quiet so I could get unlost. All and All it was a great day just the three of us. Momma Shawn, Spencer with the loose tooth, and Tonks our fearless broom rider. Life really is good I am so very blessed.

They Are Off

Today I sent my two entries to the Hoffman Challenge. I am so pleased with the way they both turned out that it made me smile from the inside out. So here is the quilt that I named "Peacocks In My Backyard"
This is the Peacock
the photos really don't show the detail and the stitching.
Then I entered these two I have named them Abhijaya {the Fairy} and Raila {the dragon} they are the keepers of the Peacocks. The whole piece measures about 14" long and about 10" tall. Both are embellished with beads, funny yarn, glitter paint and feathers. I love making dolls and these dragons. This whole piece is all done in Hoffman Challenge fabric but one little suitcase on the back of Abhijaya.

Abhijaya means Victorious which I think is very fitting because I feel that these two could do just that. Raila means to be one with the Fairy's.
If you would like to see more of my Fairy's and Dragons or if you would like to own your own Dragon, Fairy, or a Fairy riding on a Dragon I can and will take special orders if you have a pay pal account. The dragon alone is $300.00, the Fairy alone is $200.00 put them together and it's $550.00. You pay shipping and handling. Please email me for more details.

A Sad Day

My Sisters and Brothers
I do my most productive sewing, house work when I am sad, or mad I stay focused and on task. Sounds weird but I get allot done when I am either sad or mad. It can't be the time that I am creative there has to be a plan. This last Sunday I found out that my older sister Punkie has cancer again this time it's the really bad news it seems to be in her bones as of now we know that it is in her hips and her spine. We are having a large family retreat this weekend and I had to have her quilt ready for the weekend. Last year about this time I had decided to make all my siblings each a quilt. I have gotten 2 of the 5 done. So Sunday was the day. I cut it out on Saturday night. the top was sewn together by 10 am Sunday Morning. I'm calling it "Butterfly's Are Free"

So I was still sad and needed something new to work on that I could finish with a plan. My nephew Scott who will be going back to Iraq sometime soon for the third time just got married last weekend so I made them a quilt this is a queen sized log cabin out of the book "Make a Quilt In A Day" by Eleanor Burns. I thought as I looked at the book you would have to sew like a crazy woman to do them in a day. I cut and finished the top in less then 8 hours of sewing. I love it and it made me want to make more.
